REVIEW: Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy™

I’m not the DYI type but when it comes to my nails, I often opt to give the salon a miss and tend to my talons myself. It’s not too complicated and I’ve sort of developed a formula that I’ve stuck to for quite sometime – you can watch the DIY here. However, what does change is the nail polishes I purchase and the shades I go for. The catch with DIY remains in imitating professionalism. This can only be achieved when the right type of product has been used and the correct technique practiced.  For me, the nail polish is just as important as the glue and type of artificial nail used – they all come together in forming the perfect manicure. Lately, I have been loving the Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy™ collection and here’s why…

Minimal Chipping

If you’re a DIY gal or simply don’t have the time or budget for a salon visit every two weeks, you’ll know the frustration that comes with having to deal with chipped and cracked nails two days into a manicure. It can make what is meant to be a positive pampering experience rather discouraging and seem like not worth the hassle. The Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy™ nail polishes may, however, be your saving grace. Their long-wear formula means zero chipping and the ability to pass some of the most labour-intensive toughness tests. Activities like house chores, also no longer have to be obstacles because of the all-in-one base coat and Diamond Top Coat.

Precise Application

So painting “outside the lines” is a regular occurrence, huh? Well you’re not alone. While a little water is enough to remove unwanted polish on your skin, it can be an inconvenience when you’re in a rush. One of the major reasons I’m a fan of Gel Envy™ is because of the size of the brush. It’s just the right width to ensure that within two – three strokes (depending on the length of your nail) the polish is where it needs to be. Also, the end of the brush isn’t straight and instead forms a somewhat curved shape similar to the natural silhouette of your nail so that little mistakes are made. It’s an overall easy process to apply polish making it a fun experience once again!

Shine and Shades

With the Gel Envy™ collection, you’re promised a salon-quality finish. They leave nails looking beautiful and shiny which is something I don’t often see in most nail polishes. If anything, most are shiny for the first 24hrs and soon after, they appear dull and lackluster requiring another coat or in some cases a complete redo. I am super impressed with the way in which these shades uphold their initial shine but I will confess that I believe the Diamond Top Coat™ adds a special touch. I have observed it as some form of toner almost – it corrects the shade making it look just as it does in the bottle and also makes the colour even more glossy. The Gel Envy™ formula also isn’t too watery and sheer, each of the 38 shades are completely opaque when just two coats are applied. Some of my favourites include Perfect Pair, a pinky nude and Checkmate, a true nude with a greyish undertone. On occasion I’ll branch out and reach for Hold ‘Em, a purple-berry hue and Beginners Luck, a delicate soft pink complete with a pearlescent shimmer.
