Being a certified product junkie means I am always putting beauty products to the test. In recent weeks, a few launches have come across my desk and I have also indulged in a little bit of shopping. In so doing, I have accumulated a healthy bundle of beauty products to try and so I thought I would share them with you…
Personally, I don’t believe one can have too many eyeshadow palettes and so I picked up a beauty blogger international favourite, Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance. Online beauty store Muse Beauty stock a whole host of beauty brands that are commonly available in the U.S. but haven’t quite yet made it their way here. Because Sephora does not ship to South Africa (yet), I figured I would give this local beauty portal (Muse Beauty) a try and order a batch of goodies coveted by beauty lovers world wide. Was it worth the hype? Yes, yes and yes! From neutral everyday looks to a fierce night time slay, Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance is extremely versatile and simply a must-have. While it does retail for $42 online (roughly R560), Muse Beauty sells it for R1000. Significant mark-up? Yes. But once you factor in shipping and customs charges, you will more or less arrive at the same cost. If, however, your pocket still won’t allow for you to make such an investment, you might want to try the new Smashbox Cover Shot (R650 at Woolworths, Foschini, Edgars) palette in Ablaze. The colours are just as captivating, intensely pigmented and is much more compact allowing you take it with you anywhere you go.
Whether or not my plan is to rock false lashes for the day, I can never do without a hardworking mascara. Lately, I have been loving the Lancôme Grandiose Extreme Mascara (R455 at Woolworths; Edgars). I have only given the Yves Saint Laurent The Shock Mascara a whirl in the confines of my own home as I was sent the shade Underground Blue. Should I have been at Coachella, however, I definitely would have rocked it.
With a quick focus on skin, I also picked up the Chanel Hydra Beauty Nutrition Nourishing and Protective Cream (R1100 at Edgars). This purchase was definitely a treat, plus I also wanted a rich hydrating cream appropriate for the fast approaching colder months. Fans of the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour® Cream will love that the global beauty brand have come out with an Eight Hour® Miracle Hydrating Mist (R350 at Edgars, Woolworths, Foschini). I’ve been loving this as a refreshing boost for my skin. I wouldn’t say that this is a make-up setting spray, instead use this post-sweat, pre-touch up or before heading to bed. Its size is also super convenient to travel with. Another item I’ve been loving is the Clarins Kiss Daily Energizer Lovely Lip Balm (R215 at Edgars, Woolworths and Foschini). It smells like fresh melon and something else that’s delicious.
Ciaté London have officially launched in South Africa and they kindly provided me with a care package filled with their favourites to try. Best known for their exceptional nail lacquer formulations, this much-loved UK born beauty brand has also expanded into the make-up category and have subsequently come out with intriguing Ciaté Precious Metal Eyeshadows (R325 at Woolworths) and Liquid Velvet Moisturizing Matte Liquid Lipsticks (R250 at Woolworths) to name a few.
And finally, to round off this bunch, I have also been using and loving the Urban Decay Optical Blurring Brush (R500 on foschiniforbeauty.co.za). It does wonders when it comes to blending out fluid and cream foundations. Because it is densely packed, application is flawless without leaving any streaks when buffing into the skin.
